The Athletic Training Education Program Faculty are well qualified leaders in the Athletic Training Profession. The faculty combined have numerous state, district and national presentation's at a variety of athletic training, sports medicine and emergency medical services conferences. Dr. Fuchs currently serves as the Director and Assistant Professor of the Athletic Training at Eastern Kentucky University and resides in Richmond, Kentucky. Prior to his current position he served as EKU's Clinical Coordinator for the previous three years. Prior to EKU, Dr. Fuchs spent three and half years as the Clinical Coordinator and Assistant Athletic Trainer at Tusculum College in Tennessee.

Dr. Fuchs is the current President of the Kentucky Atheltic Trainer's Society (KATS), which he will serve as the KATS President for two years. Dr. Fuchs is the Chair of the NATA National Quiz Bowl Committe, SEATA Quiz Bowl Committee.

During his tenure Dr. Fuchs has dedicated time to sharing his knowledge and expertise through numerous national, regional and state public speaking engagements. Some of which include presentations at:

  • Numerous the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium including this past year in San Antonio on Wound Care and Dressings for the Modern AT
  • Annual Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium and Members Meeting
  • BiAnnual Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association Educators conference
  • Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Conference this Fall 2009
  • Tennessee Athletic Trainers’ Society State Meeting
  • Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association Student Symposium
  • Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society State Meeting
Dr. Fuchs’s presentation’s success at the NATA conferences earned him admission to the NATA’s National Speaker Bureau in 2004. Dr. Fuchs also commits his time to such professional endeavors as serving as a, a CAATE site visitor, served as a former JRC-AT Site Visitor, a member of the CAATE Technology Committee, and is currently a manuscript reviewer for Athletic Therapy Today, Human Kinetics, and F.A. Davis Company. Dr. Fuchs holds memberships with the, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association, Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society, and the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists.  He has additionally served as a fire fighter and EMT with a variety of volunteer fire and rescue departments in his 10 plus years as an EMT.

Dr. Spigelman has recently accepted the Clinical Coordinator/Assistant Professor  position at EKU and looking forward to returning to the EKU program where she previously served as an approved clinical instructor!

Dr. Spigelman began her teaching career as an elementary physical education teacher and high school athletic trainer in Lancaster, Pa.  She then worked as an instructor/athletic trainer at the University of New England, Biddeford, ME and Towson University, Towson, MD. As a doctoral student at University of Kentucky, Dr. Spigelman served as an approved clinical instructor at EKU before accepting a position as an assistant professor in Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s entry level masters athletic training program. 

Dr. Spigelman’s clinical experience includes work with collegiate men’s and women’s lacrosse, volleyball, softball, basketball and soccer.  Also, Dr. Spigelman served as head athletic trainer at Clayton High School, Clayton, NJ and assistant athletic trainer, JP McCaskey High School, Lancaster, PA.  Dr. Spigelman’s research interests focus primarily on swimming, performance enhancement, and upper extremity injuries.

Aaron Sciascia has been an adjunct professor for the EKU ATEP since 2005.  Aaron is the program coordinator at the Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine Center where he actively conducts quantitative research examining scapula and shoulder function and helps produce scholarly publications.  His interests include electromyography of therapeutic exercises and kinetic chain rehabilitation.
